Sam Savitt has authored numerous books and illustrated well over one hundred books. His horse charts are known throughout the world and his authoritative work has been used in encyclopedias as well as by the Smithsonian Institute. Sam was the official artist of the United States Equestrian Team and a founding and active member of the American Academy of Equine Artists. Sam grew up in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City, spent four years in the United States Army then attended the Art Students League while working as an illustrator of national outdoor magazines. Illustrating horse stories was always his specialty—western in the beginning and later encompassing the entire world of horses. He has illustrated every aspect of horse activity, including polo, dressage, racing, steeplechasing, fox hunting, rodeo, show jumping and all breeds. His knowledge of horses, not only as an artist, but also as a horseman, has brought reality and authenticity to his work.
