From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 1-- Professor Curious asks readers to help him solve the mystery of the hiking dinosaurs. He has spotted their footprints high in the Alps, and wonders how they got there. He offers several clues, an important one of which is the theory of tectonics and continental drift. The promise of this intriguing beginning is spoiled by Timmons's conspicuously cute interpretations of the text, making it an unsatisfactory book for young dinosaur lovers and scientists. For example, where the author states, "Dinosaurs loved to play in the water," the accompanying drawings show them at the seashore--with bikini, inner tube, and summer reading ( Rex in Love ). One of the first pictures misses the mark entirely: Professor Curious is depicted with a magnifying glass when the text refers quite clearly to binoculars. Gil presents intriguing and current information that will be of interest to students studying continental drift, but the silly, anthropomorphic dinosaurs are more turn-off than enticement to learning. --Anna Biagioni Hart, Martha Washington Library, Alexandria, VA
