Dr. Robert Ivker is a clinical instructor in the department of family medicine and otolaryngology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
listic health care manual designed specifically for men, Thriving is filled with detailed information and instructions for achieving and maintaining maximum physical, mental, and spiritual health. This comprehensive, user-friendly guide to holistic treatments and therapies shows men how they can go beyond feeling simply "unbroken" to feel gloriously "whole."
This holistic approach to men's health is written by a true believer with the correct credentials. Ivker is president-elect of the American Holistic Medical Association, a member of the advisory board of the Men's Health Network, and a clinical instructor at the University of Colorado Medical School. He lays out his book in two parts. Part 1 shows how to build a sense of thriving in body, mind, and spirit by getting in touch with basic intuitive powers; Part 2 is a guide for treating the most common chronic diseases afflicting men today with combined therapies that include vitamins, herbs, exercise, and diet and identifying underlying emotional causes. Unfortunately, Ivker's text is often repetitive and superficial (e.g., the explanation of chakras is inadequate). Nonetheless, for those?especially men?actively seeking alternative, holistic, New Age, or non-Western therapeutics, this book may provide encyclopedic if not exhaustive recommendations.?James Swanton, Harlem Hosp. Ctr., New York
