Reviews

Felder (coauthor, with Harold H. Bloomfield, Making Peace with Yourself, 1986) here reexamines the overlooked wisdom of the Ten Commandments. Referring to the Exodus precepts as the "ten challenges," Felder offers subtle interpretations of each commandment that are more far reaching and difficult to put into practice than the traditional shalt-nots that we've come to take for granted. For example, Felder interprets the sixth precept, usually phrased "thou shalt not kill," to mean that we should take care not to crush any person's spirit, including our own. These ancient commandments take on fresh relevance as Felder illustrates their deeper meanings and possibilities for application in daily life. A sophisticated yet practical addition to spiritual self-help collections.
