Introducing the concept of time, the young narrator of Me on the Map and Me and My Place in Space clearly and carefully explains how time comes in different amounts and then shows readers how she tells them apart --as well as how smaller measurements of time add up to larger amounts of time. Relating these measurements to herself and her life makes them easier for children to understand: A second is like the blink of an eye; in a day, the sun rises and sets; a century is long enough for a tree to grow tall. While many books show how to tell time, Me Counting Time is a totally accessible way to bring the concept of time down to a fun, kid-friendly level. A handy time-equivalents page is included at the very end.

Kindergarten-Grade 2-A little girl approaching her seventh birthday introduces children to the elements of time from seconds to minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, using concrete examples from her life to illustrate the concepts. She can write an invitation to her party in a minute and it takes one hour to make a birthday cake. Brief discussions of a Viking ship, a photo of her great-great-grandpa, and her mother's wedding dress represent more abstract concepts such as millennium, century, and decade. Colorful, childlike drawings reinforce the explanations, and the back flyleaf presents a chart reviewing the concepts. A serviceable title.
