The Westward Expansion Was A Time Of radical change in America. The upheaval of moving west and beginning a new life from scratch was difficult for those who made the trip. Cathy Luchetti's Women of the West (in collaboration with Carol Olwell) received the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award for Literary Excellence, and Home on the Range: A Culinary History of the American West won the James Beard Award for Best Writings on Food. She is also the author of Under God's Spell: Frontier Evangelists, 1772-1915. She lives in Oakland, California.
