The wealth of human cultures and biological species in the rain forest environments of Africa, Asia, and South and Central America are described in this colorful companion to the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition, which is touring U.S. cities and Toronto till 1991. These constantly diminishing forests contain only about six percent of the world's land but are thought to house almost half its species and 32 percent of the living matter produced on land each year. This well-organized work effectively shows the various pressures on this fragile and valuable ecosystem and on the cultures of the rain forest peoples.
