Original brochure. Condition: Gut. 61 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author. - Cover lightly rubbed, otherwise very good and clean. - Contents: Introduction -- Aiaia and Egypt -- Thrinakia -- Ogygia -- Pylos -- Scheria and Sparta -- Conclusions -- Works Cited. - From the text: The techniques of the oral poet have attracted increasing interest in recent years because of the insight into the Homeric epics and other oral poems which an understanding of them affords. From older singers the oral poet learns verbal and narrative habits which are so efficient that he is able to compose a version of a complex, traditional song at a fairly rapid pace during performance. In the present investigation I shall consider some examples of narrative technique in the Odyssey. - Wikipedia: William Hansen (born 1941) is professor emeritus of classical studies and folklore at Indiana University Bloomington. He is known for publishing the first English translation of Phlegon of Tralles. He has also edited multiple collections of classical mythology and authored several works concerning Ancient Greek folklore and Roman folklore. Hansen's most recent book, The Book of Greek & Roman Folktales, Legends & Myths, is an anthology of lesser known narratives from the folklore of classical antiquity.
