Synopsis
An important exhibition was mounted in the University Library from April to June 1984, to mark the four hundredth anniversary of University printing and publishing in Cambridge, and this catalogue gives a permanent record for historians and bibliographers. Mr McKitterick has written introductory notes to the catalogue as a whole and his full entries on the exhibits give detailed bibliographical and historical information. The Press' charters, official and other letters, and historical documents are catalogued and reproduced, as well as a selection of Cambridge University Press books from 1584 onwards. The catalogue will be valued as one of the permanent records of the quatercentenary year.
