The European Garden Flora is the definitive manual for the accurate identification of cultivated ornamental plants. It is designed to meet the highest scientific standards but the vocabulary is kept as uncomplicated as possible so that it is fully accessible to the informed gardener and landscape architect as well as to the professional botanists. Although based upon Europe the series will be an extremely useful reference on plants in cultivation throughout the world. Families, genera and species are described, keys are provided and guidance is given on the cultivation of each genus. This volume is the first to be published in a series of six; it contains accounts of 17 families, 402 genera and 1663 species of monocotyledons.

Book Description:
The European Garden Flora is the definitive manual for the identification of cultivated ornamental plants, designed to meet the needs of the nurseryman, landscape architect and informed gardener, as well as the professional botanist. Volume VI concludes the Flora and contains accounts of 38 families of dicotyledons, including the largest family of flowering plants, Compositae (with over 190 genera), plus many other genera of horticultural importance. Keys are provided at the level of family, genus and species and diagrams are included to illustrate diagnostic features of critical taxa.
Review:
"The descriptions use uncomplicated vocabulary and still maintain scientific standards and accuracy. There is a great amount of useful horticultural information provided, such as methods of propogation and cultural requirements. Literature citations are given for each family and genus. Particularly welcome are references to good illustrations....should remain the standard reference to cultivated plants in Europe for some time." Michael T. Steiber, Huntia

"...a useful and reliable tool for which serious gardeners have cause to be grateful." Horticulture
