Book Description

This three-volume set succeeds the first edition originally published in 1981. Volume 1 covers the period 1700-1860, that of Britain's rise to relative economic supremacy. Volume 2 discusses the period 1860-1939, that of the height of British economic power and of painful readjustment after 1914. Volume 3 considers the period since 1939, that of relative economic decline and of increasing involvement with the European Community.

Review

"For the wealth of information contained herein, this set is highly recommended for all history reference collections." Reference Book Review

"...a kaleidoscope of great scholarship." William P. Kennedy, Times Higher Education Supplement

"'Floud and McCloskey' is both the most comprehensive undergraduate textbook on British economic history since the eighteenth century and a ready starting point for graduate and scholarly research on the subject. No economic historian of Britain should be without these volumes....This edition will prove to be even more valuable than the first....The quality of the writing and the analysis is uniformly high and the interpretations are usually convincing if sometimes provocative....[A]n effective teaching and research tool." William J. Hausman, Albion
