Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Immediate dispatch from Somerset. Nice book in great condition. Pages in excellent condition. Hardcover. English. See images for condition. About the book >.>.> This volume, which has been developed from the proceedings of a conference of the Society of Renaissance Studies held in London in 1987, examines the altarpiece as an artistic type or genre within the period c. 1400-1600 and provides the first modern account for teachers and students of Renaissance art. Half of the essays are concerned with Italy, while others address Netherlandish, German, and Spanish altarpieces. The editors' introduction draws the various themes together; the select general bibliography and numerous illustrations serve to amplify the text. In sum the volume offers a major contribution to Renaissance studies and will make available in convenient form not only a good deal of factual information but also many lines of thought which are currently being developed and are contributing to a general reassessment of attitudes to Renaissance art.
