In 1995 a spring school was organised to introduce postgraduate students to current topics in applied nonlinear mathematics; this volume contains the bulk of the lectures given there, by a team of internationally distinguished scientists.The majority of the courses are in the area of nonlinear dynamics with application to fluid mechanics, boundary layer transition, driven oscillators and waves. However, there are also lectures considering problems in nonlinear elasticity and mathematical biology.
