The daily life of hard physical work was punctuated by the births of children and the arrival of neighbours, and gradually the unforgiving forest was transformed into productive land. All this Catherine recorded faithfully in her diary. But, as the years wore on, her early optimism turned to disillusionment and sometimes to despair, and the diary became a moving private confessional. Books listed here are not stored at the shop.
