About the Author
David Lawrence is currently a project manager with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority in Townsville. From 1993 to 1995 he was a research fellow based at NARU. He has undertaken research on traditional exchange systems and material culture in Torres Strait and Papua New Guinea and has also worked on a variety of environmental management and development projects, principally in the lower Fly River region of Papua New Guinea.
