Each story is beautifully written, and wonderfully entertaining. In Mary Wilkins Freeman's "The Doctor's Horse," the reader is introduced to a spirited horse that seems predestined for only one owner, a doctor, whose youthfulness is ignited by the horse's presence. William F. Nolan's "Shadow Quest" follows the relationship between a lonely drifter and a wild horse appropriately named Diablo. And, in J. Lincoln Steffens's "The Old Jim Horse," a fire chief determines the fate of the department's old work horse. This anthology is a great gift book for any horse lover or animal lover.
