Grade 5 - 8 Megan enjoys being part of the "in" crowd at her junior high, with her best friend, Angie, at the center. The summer begins innocently enough with the group of five going to the beach each day. However, Angie is not content unless their activities include adventure and danger, and she initiates the Truth or Dare game. Gradually Megan must make decisions about what is important to her: the truthother friends, being herself; or the daresshoplifting, trespassing, ignoring a friend. A climactic fireworks explosion which involves the girls concludes this banal story of growing up. The characters are stereotypes: one fat, one blond, one nasty, one meek; the dialogue is flat; and the conclusion obvious. One more teenage problem novelnothing really wrong with it, but nothing noteworthy, either. Constance Allen, Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass.
