Oscar Casares es el autor de Brownsville, una colección de historias que fue el American Library Association Notable Book del año 2004, y actualmente está incluido en el programa de estudios de varias universidades estadounidenses. También es autor de la novela Amigoland. Es el ganador de las becas de National Endowment for the Arts, de la Copernicus Society of America y del Texas Institute of Letters.
