An investigation into nine of the world's most famous haunted houses includes the house built by ghost-obsessed Sarah Winchester with blind alleys to confuse spooks and the Weir House, supposedly haunted by a man hanged for witchcraft.

Daniel Cohen is the author of numerous nonfiction books on ghosts and other paranormal phenomena. He lives in Mt. Kisco, New York.
Grade 5-7-Cohen has assembled nine "true" accounts of haunted places in the United States and Europe, ranging from churches to the White House. While some of these ghost haunts, such as the Sarah Winchester house, appear in many collections, others are less well known. Some of the tales are rather gruesome, featuring spectral revenge and demonic activity. Written in short simple sentences with large type and copious white space, this attractively designed book will appeal to reluctant readers. The spooky, almost surreal black-and-white illustrations and the eerie jacket cover add a chilling touch.
