Grade 6-8 This revised edition of The First Book of How to Run a Meeting (Watts, 1967; o.p.) provides a basic introductory look at how parliamentary procedure works. Powers describes the principals of running a democratic meeting, the order in which a meeting is organized, how to take a vote, how to make motions (and their priority), how amendments to proposals are made, the nature of special and standing committees, how to conduct elections and set up the rules for an organization. Included are a sample constitution and bylaws and a simplified chart of motions. Pen-and-ink cartoons are scattered throughout. With a simplified, improved format, this comprehensive but understandable introduction to procedures for running a meeting is superior to the 1967 edition. Joe Bearden, Dallas Public Library
