Grade 6 Up A revision of the 1980 edition. A thorough, albeit dry discussion of the subject, including the latest word on Toxic Shock Syndrome, a condition discovered in 1979, which makes older books on the subject incomplete. The text, for the most part, seems to be aimed as much at parents as at young people. For readability, Voelckers' Girls ' Guide to Menstruation (Rosen, 1975) is preferable, except for the omission of TSS. Some of the illustrations are clearer in this edition than in the older one, but most are about the same. The emotional aspects of menstruation are only briefly touched upon in a final chapter, where Nourse, a male physician, interviews several college girls as to how they felt when they first got their periods. Recommended for libraries needing to update information on menstruation; otherwise it's an additional purchase. Ann Scarpellino, Ramsey Public Library, N.J.
