Grade 4-8-- After a very brief glance at the childhood and wealthy family background of George Bush, this biography shares glimpses of his military experiences, his marriage, and his entrepreneurial spirit--the last guaranteed by family backing. Bush's continuing experiences in government, his foreign diplomacy, and leadership of the CIA are summarily covered; his possible involvement in the Iranian arms-sale scandal and his defense of Nixon at the time of Watergate are mentioned briefly. Much of the text is devoted to Bush's campaigns and to his vice-presidency, especially when he was faced with the dramatic events of 1981, when Reagan's life was threatened by a would-be assassin. Unfortunately, there are no quotations or documentation in this timely book; it seems to have been rather hastily compiled from news clips and newspaper articles. The photographs show Bush from childhood through his inauguration as President; they are clear and well-placed.
