Gr 9-12-Well-organized and precise, this revised handbook (first published in 1987) is for novices as well as for experienced students. The benefits of formal argumentation are emphasized, and tips for good delivery and rebuttal ideas are given. The chapter on types of debate-Standard, Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Parliamentary, Heckling, etc.-is informative. Black-and-white photographs of the 1992 presidential debates along with a few cartoons are interspersed throughout the text.
