About the Author
Tocci taught chemistry and biology at East Hampton High School on Long Island, New York, for many years. While he as a teacher, he organized many science fairs at his school. He continues to judge local, regional, and national contests. He has also given workshops for science teachers at meetings held throughout the United States.

Grade 6-10-After introducing readers to a series of chilling crimes, including the Oklahoma City bombing, and the evidence for each case, Tocci discusses the issue of security and the field of biometrics. He looks at how human traits such as fingerprints, hands, DNA, eyes and the voice can be used to identify individuals for security systems and also as evidence in criminal cases. Each biometric trait is discussed thoroughly, with examples of its use and the increasing sophistication of various scanners interspersed throughout the book. This title fills a need for topical and timely information on current technology. It is easy to read, and the information is presented in a clear and logical style. Scientific and/or technical terms are italicized and defined in the glossary. A list of organizations and online sites is appended. The unbiased coverage includes both the pros and cons of using these devices. The result is an accessible research tool and a good starting point for students interested in this fascinating field.
