Gr. 4-8. The new Life Balance series focuses on topics that affect everyday mental health and well-being. Therapy is geared toward middle-schoolers and young teens encountering therapy for the first time. The brief, accessible chapters will help readers identify their need for help, learn what happens during sessions, and understand their rights. A few phrases trivialize the struggles of early childhood, but the tone is mostly reassuring and clear. Yoga begins with a suggestion that readers consult a doctor before beginning a yoga practice and seek out a qualified teacher. The beginning chapters introduce some basic postures, but the format, with few illustrations, is difficult to follow. It's the later chapters, which delve into yoga's broader spiritual and philosophical ideas, that readers will find most useful. Interesting and succinct, these chapters will partner nicely with Liz Lark's Yoga (reviewed on p.424), that offers a better description of how to move through the postures. Gillian Engberg
