Grade 6-10-- Through step - by - step instructions, Rainis invites readers to enter the not - so - common ``microworld'' of common everyday objects. The text explains first what a magnifying glass is, how it and other lenses work, and how to observe the world from a more enlightened and different perspective. The individual chapters that encourage the observations of such things as photos, insects, animals, fibers, and other subjects are readable and can generally stand on their own. Practical advice is offered along with reminders concerning adult supervision or help. Additionally, each chapter concludes with a small but appropriate reading list. Detailed, well-captioned line drawings and black-and-white photographs greatly enhance the discussion. The inclusion of a materials appendix is also useful.
