Grade 3-8 Each of these books, with abundant clear, color photographs, stresses the responsibility of owning a pet and the importance of obtaining adult approval before adopting any animal. The books describe how to choose a puppy or kitten, according to its health and breed. The equipment needed to care for the pet is also described so that it may be obtained before the animal is brought home. Pope stresses not to overwhelm the young puppy or kitten when it is first brought home. Simple training is suggested for dogs, and house training suggestions are given for cats. Food and hygiene requirements are suggested for both animals as well. Pope finishes each book with a checklist of pet owners' responsibilities and a question and answer section.Teresa D.
