Reviews
ea. vol: 32p. illus. by Richard Hook. photogs. bibliog. chron. glossary. index. (Great Lives Series). Watts. 1987. PLB $10.40. Grade 4-8 An excellent pair of biographies. Both of these slim books are well-illustrated with photographs from newspaper and magazine files, maps, and drawings and sketches of their subjects. Care has been taken to include interesting tidbits of information that make the two men come to life and to make the facts easier to remember. Each life is chronologically divided into chapters with a page or two devoted to important events during a 10- to 15-year span. Some historical background pertaining to the events occuring during the lifetime of each man is included to help place that person in proper perspective. These well-written but brief introductory biographies will be useful to elementary grade readers as well as older reluctant readers looking for report and research information. Gayle W. Berge, Creswell High School, Oreg.
