Dana Meachen Rau is an author, editor, and illustrator of children's books. She has written more than 100 books for children, many of them nonfiction in subjects including astronomy, history, and geography, as well as numerous biographies. She lives in Burlington, Connecticut, with her husband and two children.

George Washington Carver is more than “the peanut guy,” as proven by this eye-opening look at his childhood as a slave, his education in agriculture, and his work in improving the quality of farmers’ soil. There’s no real getting into the minds of the subjects, but that’s okay—the facts, the pictures, and the back matter (a poem, life tips, a time line, and more) speak for themselves.
