Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. xii, [2],186, [6] pages. Illustrations. Appendix: Poetry Popular among Sailors and Marines in the South Pacific. Glossary of Navy and Marine Terms. Pencil erasure residue on fep. DJ flap creased. Lawrence O. Ealy was a lawyer, educator, and naval officer. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and also attended Temple University, the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School (at Harvard), and the U.S> Naval Aviation Supply School. He served in the navy in several capacities during his 30 year career. He specialized in naval logistics and supply. He also served as the Ernest J. King Professor at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. As the war in Europe steadily progressed, the author saw that the times demanded a sacrifice of all young Americans. He enrolled in the Harvard Navy Supply Corps School in June, 1941, and when he graduated he embarked on a naval career that took him, among other places, to Panama and the Solomon Islands. He also had the opportunity to meet some of the powerful people of that time, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, and his narration of those meetings is both insightful and amusing. President D. Roosevelt, Lt. Robert Montgomery, and Lt. John F. Kennedy all became friends of the author during World War 11. JFK and movie star Montgomery were shipmates of the author's when they all served n the Navy's PT boats.
