Synopsis
This text introduces students to the topic of good reasoning in a way that is relevant to everyday life. It uses examples taken from the media (TV, newspapers, magazines), public school textbooks, advertisements, as well as from the best comic strips (such as Calvin and Hobbes, and Doonesbury), cartoons from "New Yorker" magazine and the best political cartoonists (for example, Levine and Tom Toles).

About the Author
Howard Kahane (deceased) is considered one of the founders of the critical-thinking movement, an approach to logic that makes it less abstract and more practical as a tool for analyzing political and social issues.
Nancy M. Cavender is Professor Emeritus at the College of Marin.
