Verderber, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Communication Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati and former National Speaker's Association Professor of the Year is one of the all-time best-selling communication studies authors. The strength of his basic texts lies in his ability to explain and exemplify concepts, theories, and skills to introductory level students. His Cengage texts-COMMUNICATE, THE CHALLENGE OF EFFECTIVE SPEAKING, COMM, and SPEAK-have a reputation for being student favorites due to their accessible presentation of theory and skills.
Kathleen S. Verderber (Ph.D., University of Cincinnati) is Associate Professor of Management Emeritus at Northern Kentucky University. She holds an M.A. in speech communication, as well as an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of Cincinnati. She has published numerous articles in several journals, and has presented papers at communication and management conferences.
"The Verderber's have done it again. They have created an easy to understand, interesting, and engaging textbook that fits the bill for the interpersonal/public communication course. Tucked away in the chapter on relationships is a gem of a discussion about relationships that develop on the Internet. You can't go wrong with this one!"
"This text is probably the best in the field. It is thorough, complete and well written... It can be used in a variety of hybrid intro courses. The instructor can take from it that which he or she chooses."
"I have been using the Verderber text for four years and have come to love it!!! I find the examples to be up-to-date and well researched. The text is well organized with plenty of photos, diagrams and drawings. A lot of discussion points are great classroom exercises. I would recommend this text to my peers."
"The Verderber text is still the best introductory hybrid speech book on the market. One of the reasons we prefer the book for our speech sections is that it offers instructors a wide range of options for focus and assignments and provides students with a good introduction to the discipline."
