Synopsis
Robert Johnson goes to great pains to amke logic accessible and rewarding to the beginning student and, particularly, to the under-prepared student. The predominant strategy of the book, both chapter and as a whole, is to move from the simple to the complex. As the student moves along through simple demonstrations and concepts, his or her confidence with the material increases. Soon students are able to handle those aspects of logic that are not demonstrable or formalizable. Students see what the mastery of techniques can do and they see some of the ''fuzzy edges'' where logic and language are in tension.

About the Author
Robert M. Johnson received a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California at Santa Barbara and now is a Professor of Philosophy at Castleton State College, Vermont. He also serves as a medical ethicist for Rutland Regional Medical Center and is a private pilot with instrument rating.
