Synopsis

In this practice-based book, authors Hanna and Brown show beginners how to move from practice of individual therapy to the practice of family therapy. The authors help readers move toward integration of the different approaches to family therapy, encourage readers to develop multiple views of a problem, and integrate common skills from various traditional and contemporary therapeutic models. The first part of the book compares and contrasts the major schools of family therapy, while the second and third parts cover basic assessment and treatment skills.

About the Authors

Suzanne Midori Hanna is a professor of counseling and family sciences at Loma Linda University. She coordinates medical family therapy placements and is an AAMFT-approved supervisor. She has been a licensed marital and family therapist since 1981. Dr. Hanna's areas of interest include minority health/mental health issues, collaborative interdisciplinary practice, medical family therapy, sibling relationships, and evidence-based practice.

Joseph H. Brown is a professor and director of the Family in Transition program at the University of Louisville. His research interests include divorce prevention and the effects of divorce on children. He has co-authored two additional textbooks with Brooks/Cole in the area of marital and family therapy.
