Review:
"I would describe COMMUNICATION IN OUR LIVES, 3/e as an up-to-date, comprehensive review of the positive aspects as well as the complexities of human communication. This book captures and holds student interest by being well-written, concise, and by including 'real' commentary from people rather than hypothetical monologues. In addition, I sense that Julia Wood's personality is reflected in the book; from the artwork on the cover to the cartoons, photos, and use of color and examples in the text, I feel as if a real human being has put her heart and soul into writing this text. Not bad for a text on human communication! Perhaps that is one of the big reasons that this text has always 'spoken to me,' it has a human element and was written by someone who cares about students and teaching."

"I would describe the 3rd edition as a text that is current and applicable to the lives of all students. The 3rd edition outlines the necessary communication competencies and skills for students entering all professional arenas. The author carefully approaches the study of communication and its relationship to culture at all levels of human understanding and living. The text introduces communication concepts and theories through the lens of a 'real world' orientation by providing and understanding of communication and human interaction through the use of current technology and new media."

"I would describe COMMUNICATION IN OUR LIVES as a well-written, easily-understood text which offers students an excellent introduction to the study of human communication. Its emphasis on application is particularly helpful in allowing students to make the connection between communication research and their own lives."

"...There should be no reason that COMMUNICATION IN OUR LIVES would not become the definitive text for the changing nature of the Basic speech communication class on college campuses across North America. The technology integration is the most cutting edge feature as it puts it yards ahead of other texts I have seen on the market. It brings speech from the classroom to the boardroom and beyond, this is definitely the way, we are after all, preparing students for the real world."

" The 3rd edition seems cutting edge in that it aspires to accomplish what few texts have not, a culturally sensitive text and a technologically integrated text."
