About the Authors

Frances Sienkiewicz Sizer Webb, MS, RD, FADA, attended Florida State University where, in 1980, she received her B.S., and in 1982, her M.S. in nutrition. She is certified as a charter Fellow of the American Dietetic Association. She is a founding member and vice president of Nutrition and Health Associates, an information and resource center in Tallahassee, Florida, that maintains an online bibliographic database tracking research in more than 1,000 topic areas in nutrition. She is the author of the best-selling NUTRITION CONCEPTS AND CONTROVERSIES, TENTH EDITION and was a primary author of NUTRITION INTERACTIVE, an instructional college-level nutrition CD-ROM, both with Thomson Wadsworth). Her previous publications include NUTRITION CLINICS, a mongraph series for health professionals, and the college text THE FITNESS TRIAD: MOTIVATION, TRAINING, AND NUTRITION. In addition to writing, enjoying her family, and schooling her horse in dressage, she lectures at universities and at national and regional conferences, and serves actively on the board of directors of ECHO, a local hunger and homelessness relief organization her community.

Ellie Whitney, PhD grew up in New York City and received her B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English and biology at Radcliffe/Harvard University and Washington Universities, respectively. She has taught at both Florida State University and Florida A&M University, has written newspaper columns on environmental matters for the Tallahassee Democrat, and has authored almost a dozen college textbooks on nutrition, health, and related topics, many of which have been revised multiple times over the years. In addition to teaching and writing, she has spent the past three-plus decades exploring outdoor Florida and studying its ecology. Her latest book is Priceless Florida: The Natural Ecosystems (Pineapple Press, 2004).
