"The aspect of this chapter (Political Ideologies) that improves the entire text is how the author demonstrates the relevance of classic political ideas to modern politics."
"The overall organization of the text is excellent. The author moves beyond merely conveying information and creates an opportunity for students to think, question, and discuss. The examples are consistently provocative and should be very appealing to college students today. The examples used to illustrate concepts across the ideological spectrum and present good opportunities for students to consider real issues while gaining a deeper understanding of political science concepts. The author does an excellent job of making political science come alive."
"I feel particularly strongly about the issue of political culture and the necessity of student comprehension of this concept and the extent to which it directs their political thinking. I would certainly recommend that my colleagues take a serious look at this book."
"Three strengths that stand out are: 1) the very complete, well organized coverage of ideologies, 2) the discussion of the ethical foundations of the state [which are] very useful, and 3) the writing is very clear."
"I like the comparative approach, good coverage of traditional and new ideologies. It is clearly written, compact, manageable, and has a glossary".
