This text is traditional and interdisciplinary. It is a blend of applications, theory and research. It is pro-family and defines the family in a traditional, fairly conservative way. It takes an optimistic, positive view of families in the U.S. and looks at characteristics that lead to successful marriages and families. The book emphasizes what is common to all families, rather than dwelling on what is different. Students find the text highly readable, accessible, and engaging. Many interesting vignettes and examples are included as well as solid statistics and research.
