About the Author

Carole Rich is a journalism professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she served as distinguished Atwood professor. She began her career in 1970 as a reporter specializing in education and government at the Philadelphia Bulletin. She later worked for the Fort Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel as reporter, food editor and city editor. She also worked as deputy metropolitan editor at The Hartford Courant for two years before she began her teaching career in 1985. She taught at the University of Kansas for 10 years. Rich has been a visiting writing coach at more than a dozen newspapers and has conducted writing seminars throughout the country.
