Djaferis holds a B.S., Electrical & Computer Engineering from University of Massachusetts, 1974, an M.S., Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1977, an E.E., Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1978, and a Ph.D., Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1979. He currently teaches Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Massachusetts Amherst.
