FORENSIC SCIENCE: ADVANCED INVESTIGATIONS is part of a comprehensive course offering as a second-level high school course in forensic science, a course area in which students have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, earth science, math, and psychology, as well as associate this knowledge with real-life applications. This text builds on concepts introduced in FORENSIC SCIENCE: FUNDAMENTALS & INVESTIGATIONS, as well as introduces additional topics, such as arson and explosions. Following the same solid instructional design as the FUNDAMENTALS & INVESTIGATIONS text, the book balances extensive scientific concepts with hands-on classroom and lab activities, readings, intriguing case studies, and chapter-opening scenarios. "Chapter Seven (Physical Trauma) is quite possibly the best chapter I've read. It is end to end well-written, logically compiled, flows superbly, and presents relevant and interesting material. Very few forensic science texts geared towards high school or entry college level attempt to cover this material. Surely some of the strength of the chapter is related to a good set of sources. Looking over your bibliography, I am pleased to see excellent books--not a bunch of other introductory texts and cheesy websites." -- Jeff Roth-Vinson, Cottage Grove High School, OR
"Students are very interested in this topic! A good general overview is presented of the material. I like the historical connection and the flow from at the scene, to the external examination, to the internal examination, to the laboratory analysis." -- Karen Cruse, Summit Country Day School, Cincinnati, OH
"The _Forensic Science Advanced Investigations_ chapters are engaging and informative. Students are presented with an actual case that hooks them, clear explanations, thoughtful activities and assessment, all aligned to national standards. The teacher's wrap-around offers clear direction and additional information about each case, explanation and activity. Suggestions for accommodation and extension are well thought out. Students will appreciate the pictures and examples of forensic techniques." -- Mari Knutson Herbert, Lynden High School, Lynden, WA
"The book is a comprehensive study of the Forensic science discipline. Authors have done a great job in providing a conceptual framework on how to use and apply various tools that pertain to such a diverse discipline. In this book, authors have demonstrated an ability to convey the concepts to a wide variety of students by employing elementary -yet precise definitions, and plethora of graphics which simplify the process of learning. The material in the book, accompanied by the helpful Teachers' Manual, turns learning about the discipline into an exciting educational activity. Who said that fun cannot be a byproduct of academic learning?" -- Dr. Dukagjin Binishi, M.S., Ph.D.,Science Teacher, Harry S Truman High School, Bronx, NY
"Cengage offers the highest quality Forensic Science textbooks on the market... Cengage is up-to-date with its content and presents this information in carefully designed curricula that is highly readable and usable by both students and educators." -- Mr. Jeff Roth-Vinson, Cottage Grove High School, Cottage Grove, OR
