About the Author:
Dr. Jack E. Hulbert has taught communication and other business education courses for 42 years at Indiana University, the University of Delaware, and North Carolina A&T State University and in secondary and postsecondary schools in New Jersey and Georgia. He has authored English and communication books for more than 20 years. His books, published by the South-Western Publishing Co., include Effective Business Communication, Effective Communication for Today, English Skill Builder, and Effective English for Colleges, which he currently co-authors with Michele Goulet Miller.
Dr. Hulbert has also authored more than 100 articles in the fields of communication, business, and education for publications such as the Business Education Forum, the NABTE Review, The Bulletin of the Association for Business Communication, the National Business Education Yearbook, the IEEE Transactions on Professional Communication, The Balance Sheet, The Journal of Education for Business, Administrative Management, Management World, Management Review, Urban Education, and the National Public Accountant. He recently co-authored with Michele Goulet Miller a series of 21 articles dealing with grammar and writing, which were published in the GrammarLinks column of the online journal, The Balance Sheet.
Dr. Hulbert currently holds active memberships in the Association for Business Communication, Delta Pi Epsilon, and Beta Gamma Sigma. For many years, he served on the National Committee on Teaching Methodology and Concepts of the Association for Business Communication and has served on the Editorial Board of The Bulletin of the Association for Business Communication and as Communication Editor for the Business Education Forum.
Dr. Hulbert earned his B.S. degree in business education from the New Jersey State Teachers¿ College, and his M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in business education from Indiana University.
Michele Goulet Miller teaches a variety of business-related courses, including business communication, software applications, and medical office courses, at Milwaukee Area Technical College. In addition to teaching responsibilities, she works closely with employers to establish onsite experiences for students in certificate and associate degree programs. She is actively involved in program development based on daily experiences with the employment community in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Ms. Miller also co-authors The Basics: English with Dr. Clarice Pennebaker Brantley and Effective English for Colleges with Dr. Jack Hulbert. She currently co-authors Communication Tidbits and Hotlinks¿ and is a past co-author of GrammarLinks, both regular features in the electronic journal, The Balance Sheet.
Ms. Miller¿s professional memberships include National Business Education Association, International Society for Business Education, and Association for Business Communication.
As a committed parent and community member, Ms. Miller has chaired fundraising events and has served on the boards of a local humane society and a nursery school in the Milwaukee area. She regularly volunteers in the community.
Michele Goulet Miller received a bachelor¿s degree in business education from Western Michigan University. She received a master¿s degree in business education from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, and a master¿s degree in educational administration and supervision from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
