Synopsis

This work offers a guided tour of our solar system and beyond, to the farthest reaches of the universe, illustrated with images from Hubble Space Telescope as well as large ground-based telescopes. The authors explain the broad concepts of astronomy before describing what may be seen with the naked eye and through a pair of binoculars or small telescope, suc h as planets, comets, galaxies and nebulae. They go on to explain cosmological theories such as the "Big Bang", the expanding universe, and the possibility of life elsewhere.

About the Author

Raman K. Prinja is a lecturer in astronomy/astrophysics at University College London and has written several articles and guides for young astronomers. Richard Ignace is a professional astronomer, currently working at the University of Iowa, having previously been based at the University of Glasgow.
