Synopsis

Spinning out of control!

Just when you thought it couldn't get any deeper, darker, or weirder...

Creeping into the open through cracks in the earth, the Styx have surfaced, and are now infesting England like some parasitic scourge -- carriers of a bizarre black secret that will place every last Topsoiler in mortal peril.

Unless Will Burrows puts a stop to the propagation.

Armed to the teeth, with little more than a motley crew of former commandos as reinforcements, can Will, Chester, and Elliott find a way to squash the threat? Or will they only find themselves in a deadly downward SPIRAL?

Reviews

Gr 5-9-Fans of the series will be clamoring for this action-packed installment, which begins with an explosion and seldom slows down from there. Will, Chester, and Elliott continue to fight the Styx, a malevolent subterranean race that plots the destruction of the "Topsoilers." The Styx have instituted "the Phase," in which they will use humans as incubators for eggs-destroying the humans involved and unleashing powerful killers on the rest of the population. Uncertainty plagues Will's crew as loyalties may be shifting. Newcomers will need to start at the beginning of the series, but fans will enjoy this latest helping of excitement, action, and gore.-Hayden Bass, Seattle Public Library, WAα(c) Copyright 2011. “What's that?”Dappled with blood, an ivory-colored tail swept from side to side. Then, as the creature clawed its way up the Limiter's corpse, the tail disappeared from view. Reluctantly the larva stopped feeding and lowered its body in readiness. More food, with beating hearts, was coming its way. It suddenly broke from cover and scuttled into the corridor. The sight of its head was enough to make those hearts miss several beats. Will's and Chester's jaws dropped in shock.Although the larva's torso was amphibian, its head was that of a human infant – with distinct features. Covered in off-white scales, the eyes, nose, and ears were perfectly formed, albeit the mouth was filled with shiny white spikes for teeth, and the tongue, as it flicked out, was at least a foot long.Worse still, the wail it emitted could have been that of a child.
