Soft cover. Condition: New. Reprint. Brand new and unread; very fresh and bright condition; gift quality! Gold and black wrapper with white lettering. 152 very crisp and clean new and unread informative and historical pages! "The following tales were collected by the late Dr. William Jones in 1903. It is possible that some of them were collected during his visit at the Carlisle Indian School in February; but it is clear that some were collected from James Down, a Kickapoo lad from that school, in New York in May and June. A letter, dated April 15th 1913, from Superintendent Friedman to me gives the name of the Kickapoo lad, though he states the records do not show for what purpose the latter was in New York. A slip of paper inside one of the note books containing the Kickapoo tales gives a list of the Kickapoo and Sauk and Fox (of Oklahoma: hence presumably really Sauk) children at the school when Dr. Jones visited the institution. This fact coupled with passages in Rideout's life, makes it not quite certain where the material was gathered. It may be noted that the Kickapoo here resented is of the so-called Mexican band." ---- from the Introduction. Seller Inventory # 051135
