Sluiced with sarcasm and wit

A black comedy of greed and suspense

Soma is more than a Greek word meaning body. The word evokes one thing: the lost body and tomb of Alexander the Great. For centuries it has been sought by adventurers, historians, antiquarians and treasure hunters. These real life expeditions have uncovered pages of information that tantalizingly points to the possibility that Alexander's body is still preserved under the streets of modern Alexandria, Egypt, protected by the cheihs of Islam as the biblical prophet Daniel.
With this intermeshing historical backdrop, SOMA launches the reader into a high-stakes thriller of duplicity and intrigue. Begged for help by a notorious snitch, the Earwig, an unsuspecting archeologist, Dr. John Monsieur, becomes the object of ruthless collectors who believe he has a golden sandal from the burial of Alexander the Great and the clue that leads to his lost tomb. He is plunged unwillingly into the sordid and clandestine world of international antiquities smuggling, where he quickly discovers murder, a web of intrigue, and finds himself the target when he discovers too much.
Yet in all this the sandal remains elusive. There is no proof it exists except in the murders of those who had any contact with it. Were they killed to acquire the sandal and whereabouts of the tomb? Or were they killed to silence their knowledge? Or are they all pawns for someone who is playing a much bigger game?

From the Inside Flap

(From the Hardcover)

SOMA is more than a Greek word meaning body. It is a concept. The word evokes one thing: the lost body and tomb of Alexander the Great. In the 3rd century BC he was enshrined in a great public tomb in Alexandria, Egypt, crowned on the head with a golden diadem and eventually placed in a crystal coffin. So magnificent was the sight, so famous the icon who lay there, that an entire complex and district arose around it called The Soma.

For hundreds of years great and small came from every corner of the then-known world to see his body and donate gifts. Alexandria grew to become a city of 500,000 people. At its heart was the towering edifice holding the body of the greatest conqueror in history.

Then came devastation: The Soma disappeared under the rubble of earthquakes that racked Alexandria in 365 AD. After over 600 years of splendor the tomb was lost and never relocated.

Alexandria lay in rubble and dirt until the 19th century when new interest in the site and its strategic trading location on the Nile began its modern emergence. What had been reduced to a fishing village of 6,000 people has now been transformed to become Egypt's second most populated city with 3.5 million inhabitants.

But Alexandria was built over without any excavations ever having been done, sealing all the legends of his tomb under the hard asphalt of a bustling

For hundreds of years the tomb of Alexander the Great has been sought by adventurers, historians, antiquarians and treasure hunters. These real life expeditions have unearthed a ton of information which tantalizingly points to the possibility that Alexander's body and tomb are still intact under the city of Alexandria.

Theories abound as to why the great conqueror's tomb and body have never been officially located. Included among them is the genuine possibility that his body is preserved under the ancient vaults of The Nabi Daniel Mosque and zealously protected by the Cheihs of Islam as the Biblical prophet Daniel.

In SOMA Quasar intermeshes this backdrop to create an international thriller teaming with duplicity and intrigue, one sluiced with sarcasm, laced with exquisite villains, and set in exotic locales like Rome and Alexandria.
