These sermons were preached, very much in their present form, in St. Cuthbert's Parish Church, Edinburgh, in the latter part of 1964/1965. Being preached, as they were, in a place where the Christian faith has been held and the Gospel proclaimed throughout many centureis of changing history and altered circumstance, they are concerned to preserve what has come down to us from the past in beliefs that have settled into convictions and comulative experience that offers direction for living. Having been prepared, not for publication in the first instance, but each as a livign message for a congregation sifficiently large and varied to be typical of the life of the Church in Scotland today, they prepresent an attempt to meet some of the unsettlement and bewiderment which these particular years have brought to many. They do not pretend to do any more than express the reactions of one preacher and pastor, seekign to offer guidance to his own people, young and old alike, in a situation where the real issues can easily be obscured by controversy, and to share with them his unrepentant conviction that there is still "Now Other Name" R.L.S.
