An illustrated collection of thirteen poems, describing both quiet scenes from daily life and fanciful flights of the imagination

Grade 3-6 Brighton has culled from Wal ter de la Mare's poetry 13 distinctive selections. Illustrating each with de tailed, shadowy watercolors, she de picts portions of a year, morning to night, in the lives of three children of Elizabethan times as they play, investi gate, and go about their daily lives with their pet monkey, ferret, and parrot. De la Mare's poems such as ``The Voice'' and ``Tiny Eenanennika,'' in which the world of the imagination is as strong as reality, are enchantingly portrayed in this slender volume. Much of de la Mare's work is still in print, but The Voice would be a delighful additional purchase for well-used poetry collec tions. Alice Cronin, Belleville Public Library, N.J.
