The popularity of rare breeds and the growing interest in keeping livestock on a few acres has encouraged many people to establish a small flock of sheep. These enthusiastic new flockmasters, whether they keep rare breeds, native sheep, or some of the continental imports now well established in the UK, require a basic understanding of sheep management which must be just as thorough as that required by farmers running large commercial flocks. Looking after a small flock of sheep can become a most enthralling hobby but newcomers can find it difficult to relate to books written for commercial farmers. This book seeks to encourage, advise and even entertain the new small-scale sheep keeper by setting out the principles of good husbandry based on sound, practical experience.

Jeremy Hunt lives with his wife and two sons in Ribble Valley in Lancashire and writes each week in Farmers Weekly. He is a regular columnist and feature writer for Country Life and contributes to other country and livestock publications.
