Synopsis
In Terrible Times our erstwhile hero Eddie Dickens finds himself en-route to North America in the dubious care of professional chaperone Lady Constance Bustles, whose previous charges have all died under mysterious circumstances. He finds himself sharing a berth with disreputable prospectors, some familiar faces (stuffed animal and human) from his past, and with the Great Gretcha who suffers from serious bouts of sleeping sickness.

In the third installment of the Eddie Dickens saga, Eddie, our steadfast hero, finds himself en route to North America aboard the sailing ship Pompous Pig along with a cargo hold full of left shoes, the world-famous Dog's Bone Diamond, and some of the most disreputable traveling companions anyone might have the misfortune to share a berth with. A mysterious stowaway and some familiar faces from Eddie's past only complicate matters, as does being tied up and set adrift in a leaky rowboat. Will Eddie ever reach America?
About the Author
Philip Ardagh, whose very first Grubtown Tale won him the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, is author of over 100 books including the award-winning Eddie Dickens adventures, currently in over 30 languages. He wrote BBC radio's first truly interactive radio drama, collaborated with Sir Paul McCartney on his first children's book and is a 'regularly irregular' reviewer of children's books for the Guardian. Married with a son, he divides his time between Tunbridge Wells and Grubtown, where he cultivates his impressive beard.
